Artocarpus heterophyllus Lam. commonly known as jackfruit, has gained significant attention in food industry due to its unique flavour, texture, and nutritional value. Jackfruit is rich in minerals, vitamins, and phytochemicals, such as iron, potassium, and magnesium. Its morphological characteristics, growth and distribution areas bestowed its significant potential for commercialisation. However, high post-harvest losses remain a major challenge, making effective post-harvest management, particular advanced packaging method is critically essential. The current innovative packaging related to the jackfruit including modified atmosphere packaging, edible coatings, active packaging, and the use of biodegradable, nanotechnology, and smart/intelligent packaging materials. Despite there are numerous papers exploring the packaging methods on fresh cut jackfruit or using compounds from jackfruit within innovative packaging, a comprehensive summary of innovative packaging linked to jackfruit and application is still limited. Therefore, this review aims to bridge the gap by discussing the benefits, current postharvest issue, intelligent packaging, and food application of jackfruit, while pointing the future directions in this field.
