The experiment aimed to investigate the effects of purple corn anthocyanin on the growth performance, nutrient apparent digestibility, plasma biochemical, immune, and hormonal indices of perinatal ewes. A total of 21 healthy Qianbei Ma goats with natural estrus during the non-pregnant period, synchronized mating, similar body weight, and at 115 days of gestation were selected and randomly divided into three groups with seven replicates per group and one ewe per replicate. The control group (group CON) was fed a basal diet, while the experimental groups were fed the basal diet supplemented with 50 mg/kg (group LA) and 100 mg/kg (group HA) of purple corn anthocyanin, respectively. The pre-test period was 14 days, and the formal test period was 42 days. The results showed that the average daily feed intake (ADFI) of the groups CON and LA was significantly higher than that of the group HA ( P <0.05). The apparent digestibilities of dry matter (DM), neutral detergent fiber (NDF), and acid detergent fiber (ADF) in the group LA were significantly higher than those in the group HA ( P <0.05). At 21 days prepartum and on the day of parturition, the plasma glucose (GLU) content in the group HA was significantly higher than that in the group CON ( P <0.05). On the day of parturition, the plasma urea nitrogen (BUN) content in the groups LA and HA was significantly lower than that in the group CON ( P <0.05). During the trial period, the plasma lipid peroxide (LPO) content in ...
