Ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC) has been widely utilized in girder bridges, but seldom in truss structures. In this article, a novel steel–UHPC composite truss pedestrian bridge, first completed in China, is introduced, of which the lower and upper chords, transverse beams and deck slabs creatively adopt UHPC. The design outline and construction method are expounded in detail. The crucial design aspects of steel–UHPC connections and the shear capacity of the lower UHPC chords are specially elucidated. The pedestrian bridge exhibits elegant appeal and environmental harmony, which provides a substantially practical case for the innovative application of UHPC material.
