Over the last few years, MISQ has published a series of editorials on specific research genres to assist authors and reviewers (Padmanabhan et al., 2022). 1 This editorial is dedicated to quantitative behavioral research.As with the prior editorials in this sequence, this piece does not claim to provide the "one true view" of the topic but aims to provide useful advice for authors and reviewers regarding this genre.Like other research genres, quantitative behavioral information systems (IS) research is not defined by a singular practice but by a family of topical, theoretical, and methodological approaches.In terms of topics, it focuses, quite simply, on the human experience, seeking to understand how and why people act, perceive, feel, and think as they do (Rosenthal & Rosnow, 2008) in IS contexts.Because of the emphasis on human experience, the genre generally employs individual or group levels of analysis.Additionally, the genre is marked by a keen interest in theory, often drawing from cognitive and social psychology.In terms of method, the genre is typically associated with the use of surveys (including their questionnaires) and experiments.
