A series of nickel-iron layered double hydroxides (LDHs) were prepared by the hydrothermal route. Using NaBH 4 as the reduced agent, Ni nanoparticles were in-situ generated on the surface of LDHs to obtain Ni/X-LDHs. For the catalytic hydrogenation of 4-nitrophenol (4-NP), Ni/X-LDHs exhibited the excellent efficiency. Among them, the Ni/3-LDHs sample displays the best hydrogenation performance. The apparent rate constant of hydrogenation reaction for Ni/3-LDHs sample can reach up to 5.67 × 10 −3 s −1 . Moreover, the Ni/3-LDHs sample also have the good catalytic stability. The conversion rate of 4-NP at 15 min still exceed to 90.5 % for 8 cycles.
