In the field of modern product design, products are essentially the core carriers of functions, and their core value revolves around matching and satisfying customers' diversified and personalized needs through the functions they carry. Traditional design methods can hardly meet the requirements of product innovation in the new era, thus interdisciplinary theories are needed to establish a new innovative design path. This study takes product functions as the research object, combines bionic evolution theory, and focuses on the research of product functions and innovative design methods. Drawing on the biological evolutionary mechanisms of gene mutation and genetic recombination, it analogizes product function sets to biological genomes and conducts targeted "mutation" and "recombination" on the function sets. Driven by the upgrading of customer needs, market competition pressure and technological iteration, product function sets actively or passively undergo mutation or recombination, and ultimately form products with new functions. This bionic evolution-based design method provides researchers and developers with a new design framework, which helps break traditional design bottlenecks, improve product innovation efficiency and enhance market competitiveness.
