Role of Ayurvedic integrated treatment approach in management of Seborrheic Dermatitis - A Case Report

This case report discusses a 27-year-old male with chronic seborrheic dermatitis, unresponsive to conventional antifungal and steroid treatments. Symptoms included persistent scalp itching, dryness, flaky patches, and severe hair loss over five years. The patient was managed with an Ayurvedic integrative protocol involving Panchakarma detoxification, internal Oleation with Panchatikta Ghrita Gugullu, therapeutic oil massage using Nirgundi oil, medicated sudation with Dashmoola decoction, Virechana (purgation), and herbal medications both internal and topical. Over approximately 50 days, notable improvements were seen: reduction in itching, dryness, scaling, and hair loss, leading to complete symptom resolution and sustained remission. The approach addresses both symptoms and root cause that occurs because of vitiation of Vata and Kapha dosha, highlighting the potential of Ayurveda for long-term management of seborrheic dermatitis without adverse effects.
