Performance analysis of a multi-port bridgeless zeta converter topology

This article presents a performance evaluation of a multiport bridgeless (MBL) zeta converter topology, designed to serve as an efficient power conversion solution for battery charging, portable DC power supplies, and related applications. The proposed architecture integrates a bridgeless (BL) zeta converter for AC-DC operation and a conventional zeta converter for DC-DC conversion, enabling seamless energy transfer from either an AC or DC input source. In AC mode, the converter ensures high power quality with reduced conduction losses by eliminating the need for additional bridge rectifiers. Also, it delivers stable output through efficient voltage regulation suitable for a constant voltage mode of operation for battery charging. This multiport design enhances efficiency, compactness, and flexibility, making it highly suitable for emerging electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure and smart energy systems. A 400 W hardware prototype was developed to validate the proposed concept, achieving a power factor of 0.9938 and a total harmonic distortion (THD) of 4.37% under rated load conditions.
