FUNCTIONAL TRAITS AND ECOLOGICAL ADAPTATION OF GARDEN PLANTS BASED ON LEAF ECONOMICS SPECTRUM

. Garden plants are important components of urban ecosystems. Their ecological adaptability is directly affected by their leaf functional traits. The Leaf Economics Spectrum shows potential in revealing trade-off strategies between resource acquisition and conservation in plants. This study selects ten typical garden plants within the Leaf Economics Spectrum framework. It systematically measures leaf morphological structure and physiological trait indicators. Through correlation analysis and principal component analysis, it deeply explores the functional trait characteristics and ecological adaptation of garden plants. Research findings indicate significant differences among plant species in traits such as specific leaf area and leaf dry matter content. Correlation analysis reveals a significantly positive correlation between specific leaf area and nitrogen content, as well as a significant positive correlation between plant leaf dry matter content and the carbon-to-nitrogen ratio. Principal component analysis further extracted three principal components that collectively explained the majority of trait variation. Membership function results indicated lower adaptive levels for the Nephrolepis, while the Hibiscus rosa-sinensis and Canna exhibited the highest ecological adaptability.
