Global species distribution models for freshwater invasive alien species in Europe (modified wiSDM v.2 workflow)

This deposit contains the R code used to fit global species distribution models (SDMs) for freshwater invasive alien species (IAS) and to project them onto Europe under current and future climate conditions. It was developed within the GuardIAS project (Horizon Europe, Grant Agreement No. 101181413). The workflow is a modified implementation of the wiSDM v.2 framework (https://github.com/trias-project/risk-modelling-and-mapping). Two main modifications distinguish it from the original framework: 1. Global calibration instead of the European two-step configuration. Emerging species often have too few occurrence records within Europe to calibrate a regional model. Applying a single global procedure to all species allows the same workflow to be used for emerging and established species alike, so that the two groups are modelled comparably. Predictors are used at their global extent for calibration, and the calibrated models are subsequently projected onto the European 5 km grid. 2. An extended predictor set, adding three predictors that represent anthropogenic and hydromorphological drivers of freshwater invasions to the climatic variables (see below). Predictors and resolution. All predictor layers are projected to a common coordinate system and aligned to a 5 km global grid, which is the modelling resolution of the workflow; models are calibrated at the global extent and projected onto the European 5 km grid.
