Integrated Transcriptomic and Metabolomic Responses to Heat and Ammonia Stress in Tibetan Plateau Fishes

Climate change is intensifying environmental stressors such as elevated water temperature and ammonia accumulation, posing significant threats to the physiology, health, and survival of aquatic organisms. Tibetan Plateau fishes are particularly vulnerable because they have evolved under cold, oxygen-rich, and environmentally stable conditions. Understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying their responses to these stressors is essential for predicting species resilience, informing conservation strategies, and supporting sustainable aquaculture under changing climatic conditions. This systematic review aims to comprehensively synthesize published evidence on transcriptomic and metabolomic responses of Tibetan Plateau fishes exposed to heat stress, ammonia stress, or their combined effects. The review will examine how these environmental challenges alter gene expression, metabolic pathways, antioxidant defense, immune function, energy metabolism, apoptosis, and other physiological processes. In addition, the review will evaluate current evidence on nutritional and dietary interventions, including functional feeds and bioactive compounds, that may mitigate stress-induced physiological disturbances.
