Abstract Nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) are crucial nutrients for crop cultivation. At the same time, the overuse of N and P fertilizers causes severe environmental problems. To improve nutrient management, monitoring detailed nutrient flows is imperative. Here, we present the first harmonized, global crop-level dataset of agricultural N and P flows for 160 crop types plus pastures and meadows across 187 regions for 2010-2022. The dataset includes flows of fertilizer application, manure, atmospheric deposition, nutrient removal, leaching and runoff for both N and P. For N, we additionally estimate biological fixation and gaseous emissions (N 2 O, NH 3 and N 2 ), while weathering is included for P. The dataset was constructed by collating, gap-filling and harmonizing national-level FAOSTAT statistics with geospatial soil, crop and fertilization maps (HWSD, CROPGRIDS, NPKGRIDS), crop-specific fertilization data (HFUBC) and environmental modeling (IPCC Tier 1, IMAGE-DPPS). Due to high uncertainties in underlying datasets as well as the downscaling to individual crops, this dataset is characterized by a high level of uncertainty. Nevertheless, this resource can provide a useful foundation for environmental analyses and the development of targeted nutrient management strategies.
