Generic diagnosis as for the family. Etymology. Laurinquë: neuter n. (Q) meaning golden tree in the Elvish language, Quenya (The Lord of the Rings, Tolkien 1955) in allusion to the bright yellow tree-like colonies. The golden octocoral gardens on fields of brittle stars evoke the mystic world of elves, where they spoke Quenya their ancient tongue (The Lord of the Rings, Tolkien 1955; The Silmarillion, Tolkien 1977).
