Effect of formic acid on silage quality and nutrient composition of Broussonetia papyrifera

The experiment was to improve the silage quality of Broussonetia papyrifera , to investigate the effect of formic acid on silage quality and nutrient composition. The experiment took Broussonetia papyrifera as the material, the control group (CK group) was silage directly without additives, and experimental groups were added 0.5, 1.0, 2.0 and 4.0 mL/100 g formic acid, respectively. The content of nutrients composition, pH value and the content of organic acids in Broussonetia papyrifera silage were determined after silaged for 30 d. The results showed that the direct silage treatment of Broussonetia papyrifera made the fermentation quality poor. After the addition of formic acid, the pH value of silage, the content of NDF and ADF decreased significantly ( P <0.05), the content of lactic acid, OM and RFV increased significantly ( P <0.05). The experiment indicates that adding the minimum concentration of 0.5 mL/100 g formate silage can achieve better quality and nutritional value.
