Pet food attractants are non-nutritive additives that stimulate pets' appetite and promote their food intake. Therefore, the flavor effect of attractants is of great significance to quality of pet food. The article summarizes the types, functions, preparation and palatability testing of pet food attractants, reviews the research progress on flavor analysis of pet food attractants in recent years, focuses on elaborating the characteristic flavor compounds and formation pathways of attractants, providing a reference for developing novel and highly palatable pet food attractants.
