Osmoderma subplanatum Casey 1915, new to Colorado (Scarabaeidae: Osmodermini) (Fig. 67–69) The genus Osmoderma has never been recorded from Colorado (Hoffmann 1939; Howden 1968; Tauzin 1994). An old specimen of Osmoderma scabrum, labelled as collected by Fleck in Colorado, without further data, is in the Boulder Museum (UCMC). The westernmost records of O. scabrum have been from eastern Kansas (Hoffmann 1939; Tauzin 1994), rendering this old record dubious. In summer 2010, DMNS volunteer Tom Piekarski found a dead specimen of O. subplanatum in northeastern Colorado, and another specimen, this time from Denver, was posted on iNaturalist. Since this species has occasionally been recorded from western Nebraska (Ratcliffe and Paulsen 2008), its occurrence in Colorado was expected. Material examined. Piekarski (1 spm., DMNS, ZE.10386, Fig. 67–68). Distribution in Colorado (Fig. 69). Only two specimens were found in Colorado. The Yuma County locality is quite remote and passive transport of the specimen seems unlikely. The specimen from Denver, while found in a neighbourhood with old trees, could easily be passively transported.
