J-editing proton MR spectroscopy enabled in vivo separation of cerebral methylmalonic acid (MMA) and lactate signals in methylmalonic acidemia, and the MMA signal intensity correlated with blood propionylcarnitine to acetylcarnitine ratio and urinary MMA levels.
