This dataset provides microwear data (both feature measurements and surface texture attributes) for reindeer (Rangifer tarandus) from the herding districts: Paistunturi, Näätämö, Paatsjoki, lvalo, Hammastuntur, Sallivaara, Näkkälä, Käsivarsi, and Alakylä in Lapland, Finland. One hundred seventy-nine individuals were sampled across the nine districts. The purpose of this study is to determine whether reindeer dental microwear texture patterns reflect resource abundance in northern Finland, across herding districts with varying biomasses of lichen and dwarf shrub, hay, and grass pastures.
