Companies are increasingly creating fungal inoculants and offering them as biofertilizers to promote plant growth and soil safety. However, as proven in a new study, there is little or no proof of their efficacy and possible ecological consequences. Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) are naturally occurring microorganisms that create symbiotic associations with plant roots, assisting them in water and nutrient intake, and enhancing plant performance. Despite the rising usage of commercial AMF inoculants by growers worldwide, research has revealed inconsistent success. Although some plants have responded favorably to inoculation, in the majority of cases, there has been no change or even a decline in plant performance. Ectomycorrhizal and endomycorrhizal fungi are both frequent mycorrhizas that play a critical role in the growth of plants. Mycorrhizal technology can be used in agricultural and horticultural crops, as well as forestry, to improve nutrient utilization, mitigate environmental and ecological issues 210 by reducing chemical inputs manage disease by reducing biotic stress caused by pathogenic fungi, and more effectively manage land use.
