Epoxy resin is a key insulating material for gasinsulated transmission lines (GIL), but it suffers from surface charge accumulation and electric field distortion. To address these issues, this study modifies the epoxy resin surface using an argon dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) assisted with hexamethyldisilazane (HMDS). The study investigates the effects of different modification conditions on the surface flashover characteristics of epoxy resin. Several analytical and testing methods were employed to evaluate the epoxy resin before and after modification. These methods include scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), surface flashover tests, and the isothermal surface potential decay (ISPD) measurements. The evaluation focused on changes in five key aspects: surface morphology, chemical composition, surface conductivity, surface potential decay, and pollution flashover. The results indicate that plasma treatment enhances surface roughness through etching, leading to a significant increase in shallow trap density, surface conductivity, and the charge dissipation rate. Moreover, the pollution flashover voltage of modified samples was significantly higher compared to untreated samples. This work demonstrates that plasma-assisted vapor deposition effectively optimizes the distribution of surface traps, enhances surface conductivity in epoxy resin, accelerates charge dissipation, alleviates electric field distortion. All of these cont...
