Catalogue of global land soil moisture drought events

This dataset provides a catalogue of 755 Global Land soil moisture Drought Events (GLDE) detected for the period 1980–2024 from gridded root-zone soil moisture simulated by the mHM and SoilClim models at 0.5° spatial resolution and 10-day temporal aggregation. The primary dataset GLDE_SC_mHM_OPTICS_res0p5_1980_2024_10days.nc is distributed as a NetCDF file containing the full spatiotemporal representation of all detected drought events. Additional CSV files provide derived statistical and descriptive information on event characteristics, including classification, duration, severity, spatial extent, or centroid properties. The dataset accompanies the manuscript submitted to Geoscience Data Journal: Moravec et al. (2026): Catalogue of global land soil moisture drought events.
