Direct synthesis of cyclic carbonates from olefins and CO 2 via ionic liquid catalysis with mutually promoting bifunctional groups

With H 2 O 2 as the oxidant, the bifunctional ionic liquid facilitated a two-step process for the synthesis of cyclic carbonate directly from olefins and CO 2 in 90% yield obviating the need for transition metals.
