The Society for Cardiovascular Angiography & Interventions (SCAI) shock classification provides a standardized shock severity assessment for cardiogenic shock (CS) patients to facilitate clinical practice and research.1 The SCAI SHOCK stage classification was designed to be flexible, allowing several practical definitions to emerge tailored to each individual clinical situation or research database.2 Numerous studies have demonstrated that, regardless of how each SCAI SHOCK stage is defined, the classification provides robust mortality risk stratification across populations, as summarized in Supplemental Tables S2-S7 of the 2022 SCAI SHOCK classification update.
