Progress in pumping technology for diode-pumped solid-state lasers

Diode-pumped solid-state lasers (DPSSL) operating at high pulse energy, peak power, and repetition rates command significant scientific interest due to their transformative potential in laser-driven inertial confinement fusion (ICF) energy research. This review systematically examines four critical pumping geometries—end-pumping, side-pumping, edge-pumping, and corner-pumping—as a structural backbone to synthesize international advances in DPSSL development. We analyze fundamental physical processes constraining pump efficiency in DPSSL, and propose targeted pathways for enhancing optical-to-optical conversion performance.
