The global dissemination of Klebsiella pneumoniae (KP),1 particularly the emergence of strains with multiple-drug resistance and hyper-virulence underscores the critical epidemiological threat worldwide. As a result, we conducted genomic surveillance to assess the hyper-virulence and transferable antibiotic resistance risks associated with various KP sequence types (STs). Our findings reveal that ST23, characterized by a high prevalence of hyper-virulence and rapidly increasing dissemination potential, may poses a substantial public health threat considering its potential ability for horizontal transfer of carbapenem-resistant genes.
