DOI: 10.1001/jama.2024.17380) Bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) is a frequent and serious condition that affects extremely preterm infants, particularly those born before 28 weeks of gestation. While systemic corticosteroids are known to be effective in minimizing BPD, they carry a risk of adverse side effects. Intratracheal corticosteroids, which are administered directly into the lungs with surfactant, could offer a safer and potentially effective alternative. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of early administration of intratracheal corticosteroids in preventing BPD and improving survival in extremely preterm infants.
