Bamboo scrimber (BS) is a prominent type of bamboo composites, renowned for its high raw material utilization rate, strong mechanical properties and excellent weather durability, which have earned widespread recognition. Nevertheless, BS primarily employs phenolic resin as an adhesive, which can emit harmful substances such as free phenol and formaldehyde during usage. Consequently, this restricts its suitability for indoor environments, thereby limiting its applications. In view of this, the present study has successfully developed a new type of BS for indoor application by employing an innovative lignin-based biomass resin as the adhesive. The impact of impregnation and hot pressing processes on the formability of lignin-based resin bamboo scrimber (LBR-BS) was systematically examined, leading to an optimization of the processes. The distribution of resin, structure transformation and interface recombination characteristics of the LBR-BS were thoroughly investigated using FTIR, XRD, SEM and XPS. Finally, the suitability of indoor environment for LBR-BS was evaluated. The results demonstrated that the optimized forming process, which included impregnation process with a solid content of 15 %, an impregnation duration of 15 min, an initial moisture content of 10 %, and hot pressing conditions of 5 MPa pressure, 150 ℃ temperature, 15 min press-duration, yielded optimal results. The LBR-BS exhibited an excellent water resistance and mechanical strength comparable to those of ph...
