Two-dimensional (2D) materials present extensive exciting properties, offering the opportunities beyond silicon-based information devices. Tremendous efforts have been made to fully develop the extreme potential of 2D materials for future electronics and optoelectronics . A growing number of 2D functional materials with novel physical properties are being achieved, thereby broadening the field of 2D libraries and further stimulating the device application researches. Here, the recent progress in the growth and applications of 2D materials is reviewed. First, we introduce the preparation strategies of various 2D materials, including 2D metallic/semimetallic materials, 2D semiconductors, 2D insulators, 2D magnetic and ferroelectric materials , as well as their heterostructures . After that, the applications of 2D materials and their heterostructures in the fields of electronic and optoelectronic devices are presented. Finally, the future directions and key technical challenges of 2D materials and devices are discussed. We believe 2D materials and their applications in information devices would make substantial progress in the future and hope that this review could help readers quickly have a comprehensive view on the development of this research area.
