This review summarizes the progress achieved in the asymmetric catalytic synthesis of spirocyclic tetrahydroquinolines, tetrahydroisoquinolines and their oxidized forms. To aid understanding, mechanistic discussions are provided throughout, with particular focus on stereochemical control in representative examples.
