In this work, TC21 titanium alloy was treated using solid powder-packing infiltration method with single boriding , single aluminizing and first-stage boriding and second-stage aluminizing (B–Al). The microstructure of the infiltration layer was characterized by scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and electron probe microanalysis . The results indicate that the B–Al layer combines the microstructural characteristics of boriding and aluminizing, consisting of an outer TiB 2 layer, dispersed TiB whiskers + Al 3 Ti layer, and a diffusion transition zone. The measured hardness, wear and corrosion behaviors show that the specimen treated with first-stage boriding and second-stage aluminizing has high surface hardness, good wear resistance, and great corrosion resistance . Finally, the corrosion mechanism was also discussed.
