The Kunshan Aging Research with E-health (KARE) cohort is a population-based, longitudinal study that follows 100 000 individuals aged ≥60 years who reside in Kunshan City, China (Fig. 1). KARE aims to facilitate research on ageing health, focusing on factors—including genetic, environmental, and their complex interactions—that influence the development, onset, progression, and treatment response of chronic diseases among the elderly. ... Population ageing is a significant demographic trend in China. In 2019, the number of people aged >60 years reached ∼256 million, accounting for 18.1% of the population. The proportion was projected to reach 40% by 2050 [1]. The provision of quality healthcare to this growing elderly population poses significant medical and economic challenges [2, 3]. This demographic shift underscores the need for comprehensive strategies to address the rising prevalence of age-related chronic diseases, such as hypertension, type 2 diabetes (T2DM), stroke, coronary artery disease (CAD), cancer, and chronic lung disease [4].
