Abstract Charge eXchange Recombination Spectroscopy (CXRS) diagnostics are widely deployed in fusion experimental devices for the local measurement of key parameters: ion temperature, rotation velocity and the density of low-Z impurities. Russian Federation Domestic Agency (RF-DA) developed the High-Etendue Spectrometer (HES) designed to fulfill the requirements for International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) CXRS-edge diagnostics. The HES employs three holographic diffraction gratings that operate simultaneously across three spectral ranges to measure helium, neon, carbon and beam emission spectra (BES). Since the heating methods, divertor configuration, and operational scenario of Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak (EAST) are similar to ITER, the HES prototype has been tested at EAST. Good agreement in ion temperature measurements was obtained between the CXRS and X-ray Crystal Spectroscopy. The consistency of the measurements validates the performance of the HES and demonstrates that ITER-like CXRS-edge diagnostic is capable of operating reliably under similar conditions.
