Sequential single-enzyme oxidation of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural to 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid by an engineered lanthanide-dependent alcohol dehydrogenase

A lanthanide-dependent alcohol dehydrogenase, PedH, was identified, which possessed the rare ability to continuously oxidize HMF to produce FDCA. A fully automated workflow was developed to modify PedH, resulting in an increased yield of FDCA.
