Aircraft icing is a major disaster that impairs flight safety during the take-off and landing of aircraft. Summarization of the circulation patterns and meteorological conditions for the occurrence of aircraft icing holds important significance for the forecast of aircraft icing. ERA5 reanalysis data were utilized to analyze the circulation patterns and meteorological conditions for aircraft icing happening at Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport in the winter of 2018 ∼ 2020. Results show that the southwesterly flow, westerly trough, and cold frontal passage are identified as circulation patterns favorable for the occurrence of aircraft icing, among which southwesterly flow is most common. The occurrence of aircraft icing calls for certain temperature and humidity conditions: the relative humidity for moderate or severe aircraft icing is about 60%; the temperature within 0 ∼ -10°C is conducive to the occurrence of aircraft icing.
