Recent Advances in the Application of Selectfluor as a Versatile Reactant in Organic Photo‐ and Electrochemical Synthesis

Abstract Selectfluor [1‐chloromethyl‐4‐fluoro‐1,4‐diazoniabicyclo‐[2.2.2]octane bis(tetrafluoroborate)] is a versatile reagent in organic synthetic chemistry. As a renowned electrophilic fluorinating agent, Selectfluor is widely acknowledged as a crucial source of fluorine for various fluorination reactions. Moreover, it is employed as a “fluorine‐free” reagent comprising a transition metal oxidant, a fluorine anion, and a radical initiator; achieving various other organic transformations. Notably, Selectfluor can also serve as an amine or a methylene source in organic synthesis. Recently, there has been growing interest in the application of Selectfluor as a versatile reactant in photo‐ and electrochemistry. In this review, a comprehensive overview of Selectfluor's application as a fluorine or amine source in organic photo‐ and electrochemical strategies over the past decade, is provided.
