Study on injection-production linkage fire flooding technology for heavy oil reservoir in thick oil layer

The heterogeneity of thick heavy oil reservoir is serious, and problems with gas overlap and channeling severely restrict the production performance of fire flooding. The THAI fire flooding technique for thick oil layer development has faced issues in managing the combustion front, limiting its widespread application. By making full use of the reservoir heterogeneity and gas overlap effect, the injection-production linkage (IPL) control approach is proposed. Based on numerical simulation, the feasibility of the linkage fire flooding technology was studied, the major controlling factors affecting the linkage were identified, and the layout position of the linkage well was optimized. The simulation results suggest that the injection-production linkage fire flooding can effectively enhance the swept volume by around 50%. and mainly relies on gravity to drive oil. The position of linkage wells and injection-production technical parameters can be optimized to improve the effect of fire flooding. The thick oil layer and heterogeneity are no longer the constraints of IPL fire flooding. The optimal position of the linkage well can be determined by calculating the well range, optimal distance, and optimal angle. This study provides a theoretical reference for the THAI fire flooding of heavy oil in thick oil reservoirs.
