Dzyaloshinskii–Moriya Interaction-Dominated Single-Layer Janus Nanosheets for Spintronic Devices

The Dzyaloshinskii–Moriya interaction (DMI), a primary source of complex magnetic structures, has attracted considerable attention over the past decades. However, the DMI is weaker than the Heisenberg interaction in most materials. This limitation hinders its fundamental study and device application. Here, we propose a unique method that combines strain and the Janus structure to achieve a strong DMI in two-dimensional magnetic materials. We applied this scheme to a Janus CrSeTe single layer. The ratio of the DMI to the Heisenberg interaction becomes very large when the strain is around −3.5%, leading to DMI-dominated magnetic properties. Various magnetic structures, such as the 120° Néel state, spin spiral state, and skyrmion state, exist at different strain levels. Our study indicates that this method holds promise for designing new magnetic materials and could be applied to spintronic devices.
