Summary The abstract and presentation discus advanced monitoring methods for leak detection and repair (LDAR) in underground gas storage (UGS) and other oil and gas facilities, focusing on the integration of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and open data. Because traditional methods, such as manual inspections and helicopter flights, are expensive and infrequent, he study highlights the use of UAVs equipped with multisensorial loads to create effective and efficient monitoring approaches. The study outlines the methodology for pre-planning flight routes and ensuring high-precision georeferencing and data fusion. Results from UAV inspections at a UGS site showed high accuracy and efficiency, with a complete inspection accomplished within a day. The study concludes that UAV-based multi-sensor methods, supported by open data, provide a flexible and efficient alternative to traditional monitoring practices, enhancing the accuracy and frequency of inspections while reducing costs.
