The function of microglia to clear amyloid β (Aβ) is critical for Alzheimer′s patients. In their Research Article (DOI: 10.1002/chem.202400870), C. Qian and co-workers show how the soluble amyloid precursor protein α (sAPPα) effectively enhances phagocytosis and metabolism of Aβ in damaged microglia by restoring mitochondrial function. sAPPα exhibits promising potential as a safe therapeutic agent or drug carrier for the treatment of Alzheimer′s disease.
