A Ba-doped Fe/MgO catalyst pre-reduced at 700 °C, much higher than that of conventional Fe catalysts, forms an Fe 0 -core and BaO-shell structure. This enhances ammonia synthesis activity due to electron donation from BaO to N 2 via Fe 0 .
