A Critical Review on Control Techniques for Parallel Operated Inverters in Grid Connected and Standalone Mode

Parallel inverter systems have gained significant attention due to the advantages associated with them in modern power grids and parallel grid connections. The control of parallel inverters plays a crucial role in ensuring stable and efficient operation of these systems. This paper provides an extensive review of control strategies for parallel inverters, encompassing diverse facets such as 1) synchronization methods, 2) voltage, and 3) frequency regulation, 4) power sharing, and 5) communication. Furthermore, the merits and demerits of various control techniques are discussed along with the challenges and potential venues for future research. The goal of this review is to provide researchers and practitioners with a deep understanding of the current state-of-the-art in parallel inverter control and foster further advancements in this field.
