Collagen cross-linked by advanced glycation end-products (AGEs) induced myoblast proliferation but prevented differentiation, myotube formation, and RAGE upregulation. RAGE inhibition occluded AGE-induced myoblast proliferation, while the delivery of S100b, a RAGE ligand, recovered fusion deficits.
