Secretion of transforming growth factor β (TGF-β) is a prominent feature of cancer development and a striking way to inhibit anti-tumor immunity. Elimination effects of TGF-β have far-reaching positive implications for future immunotherapy. In their article, Petersen et al. designed hemagglutinin (HA)-tagged decoy receptors comprised of the extracellular domain of TGF-βRII (TβRII-ecto) attached to glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI) anchors, which resulted in a profound inhibition of TGF-β-induced SMAD phosphorylation.
