Octahedral lanthanide clusters containing a central PO 4 3− anion: structural, luminescent, magnetic and relaxometric properties

Octahedral lanthanide phosphonate clusters [H 3 O][Ln 6 (PO 4 )(AnPO 3 ) 8 (DMF) 6 ]·2DMF·H 2 O (Ln6) with a central PO 4 3− anion were synthesized. Nd6, Er6 and Yb6 emitted near-infrared luminescence, while Gd6 functioned as both a magnetic refrigerant and a contrast agent.
