Application and guiding value of BIM technology in road engineering design

According to the development trend of road engineering projects, improving the efficiency of road engineering design and changing the concept of road engineering planning and design are the necessary paths to meet the requirements of road engineering construction in the new period. The emergence of BIM technology will put forward comprehensive application solutions to the shortcomings of traditional CAD graphic drawing in the design stage of road engineerings construction projects, such as high error rate, frequent changes, and difficult communication between design and construction. With the application advantages of three-dimensional visualization, structured data, and collaborative work, BIM can comprehensively improve the decision-making accuracy of the conceptual design of road engineering, speed up the drawing speed, realize the transmission of data information, further strengthen the close connection between design and construction, optimize the overall process, improve the management mode of road engineering, and promote road engineering. Based on this, this paper will face the actual road design stage, with the help of BIM technology and Autodesk Civil 3D platform, comprehensively realize the construction of the road BIM data model from multiple angles, and prove the significance of the application and popularization of BIM technology in road engineering design by case analysis.
