Summary Antirenin has been produced in the rabbit by the intramuscular injection of human-, hog-, cat-, and dog-renins; in the guinea-pig by the intraabdominal injection of hog-, cat- and dog-renins and in the normal and renal hypertensive dog by the intramuscular injection of hog- and rabbit-renins. In dogs and rabbits the injection of homologous renins failed to produce antirenin. Antirenin is characterized by its ability to neutralize the acute pressor effect of renin when mixed in vitro. Antirenin is not a precipitin. In serum or plasma it is found in the pseudoglobulin fraction and is destroyed by heating at 75–80 C for one-half hour. Of the various antirenins studied only that produced by human renin in the rabbit appears to be species specific. The others are relatively non-specific.
