The agricultural sector is crucial to the path of national economic development. Agriculture exists all over the world and allows farmers to grow and improve their crops based on available inputs. This sector contributes significantly to the economic success of developed nations, and its position in developing nations has its own significance. However, the majority of crops depend on the prevailing climate in a particular region or country. The production of cereals like wheat, corn, and rice is extremely susceptible to changes in temperature. It is influenced both by long-term trends in average rainfall and temperature as well as by the interannual variability of the climate. The following topics will be covered in this chapter: (i) the impacts of climate change on cereal production – the need for the intensification and diversification of sustainable production; (ii) the impacts of climate change on cereal production – the need for adaptation to climate change; (iii) the impacts of climate variability on wheat production – adaptation and mitigation strategies; (iv) the impacts of climate variability on corn production – adaptation and mitigation strategies; and (v) the impacts of climate variability on rice production – a sustainable production system.
