The classification of bacteria isolated from the diet, environmental sea water and digestive tracts of red sea bream and file-fish fed in this laboratory was carried out, and isolated bacteria were divided into eight major groups (I-VIII). Only two subgroups, I-a1 and I-a11 in I group (genus Vibrio), were always dominant both in stomachs and intestines of red sea bream more than 6 hours after ingestion of diet, irrespective of the kind of diet (F-, S- or C-diet) given to fish, although within 6 hours after ingestion IV group (peritrichous rods) and VIII group (cocci) were present in the stomachs. I group and VI group (genus Achomobacter) were present in the intestines of file-fish in relatively high ratios and the components of the flora reflected those of the diet. I-a1, and I-a11, dominatly present in the digestive tracts of red sea bream, were uniquely resistant to bile and low pH. It is suggested that the indigenous flora of marine fish with developed digestive systems consists of specific Vibrio groups (I-a1 and I-a11).
