The current interest in hydrogen as a sustainable fuel is related to strategic and environmental concerns. The former includes security of supply with the increasing worldwide demand for energy, concerns that world oil production is close to reaching a peak,1 and the long-term availability of oil supplies. The latter is related to the need for more environmentally friendly alternative fuel due to pollution from fossil fuel combustion leading to poor air quality and global warming due to carbon dioxide emissions.
