The opening chapters of this volume are occupied with studies of the morphology and biology of bacteria, their vital manifestations and the methods of conducting bacteriological investigations. The procedures in the culture of bacteria are well described and illustrated. The body of the work is given to the consideration of the rôle which pathogenic bacteria plays in the production of diseases of the mouth and teeth. The chapters upon their agency in the production of dental decay are of special interest, and as such are a valuable contribution to the literature of dental pathology.
